Last Sunday more than 200 male inmates housed at the Lerdo minimum security facility fought with homemade weapons in a racially motivated attack, according to the Kern County Sheriff's Department.
In order to stop the fight, a Sheriff's officer fired two warning rounds from a shotgun, officials said.
Bakersfield.com reported that officials are allowed to make warning shots.
