In an effort to battle off-roading in undesignated high desert conservation areas, the Kern County Sheriff's Department issued a press release saying, they, along with the Bureau of Land Management will be patroling the Rand Mountain area.

Beginning November 1, 2008 The Kern County Sheriff’s Office Off Road Vehicle Team, will be assisting the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) with patrols of the Rand Mountains Management Area.
