In Bakersfield, just like the rest of California, people are faced with supporting or voting against Proposition 8. It's the kind of polarizing debate that affects the deeply Christian fundamentalist and civil rights activists just the same. Both sides are answering the question: should same-sex marriage be allowed?
Proposition 8 proposes to amend the California Constitution to make gay marriage illegal.
A Bakersfield College student who supports the civil rights aspect of Proposition 8, said, "While I don't believe in gay marriage for me, I think society is like a body. It's filled with so many separate parts that make it work. They're not all the same. Those parts work together, and in a way, have to be tolerant of each other in order for the body to be healthy."
